This is quite a long story so I will try and keep it short (ish) to stop anyone nodding off mid-read lol
Before moving abroad 2 years ago my husband and I were renting my Dad's house. When we left the house, it didnt sell, so last year My dad agreed to let friends of ours rent the house. We have had to give them 2 months notice to leave the property now as my hubby and I want to move back in now that I am pregnant as we dont want to have the baby abroad.
We won't be able to get a mortgage for a while seeing as we havnt had jobs in uk for ages and as we also have money invested in this house this seems to be the sensible option.
However my friend now seems to be ignoring me, she wont answer my emails or texts. I have said to her that I appreciate she would be upset that she has to move out, but we have little choice, and after all she is only renting. We have tried to be as fair as we can. Do you think she is being silly? Or that we are being out of order wanting the house back?

however maybe she is away at the moment and not at emails and may have changed her phone number, just a guess

When we first discussed it, she was fine and we all agreed that they need to move out 31st August, but since then she has ignored me. I have emailed her on Facebook and I also caught her online earlier but she ignored my chat.
Luckily some friends of ours live opposite, but I think that is a good idea pinktwink to send a letter of confirmation with the leaving date.
Thank you both for your opinions

Curly, where would you have come back to if your Dad's house had sold last year? Just a thought.
Yet again, what was the contract you or your Dad, made with your friends? Was it written or with an Agent or solicitor?
If they were aware that there was a possibility that you may be returning, was 2 months noticed agreed with them?
Lets call a spade a spade, they probably thought they had the house for as long as they wanted it and are now a bit pee'd off about having to move.
Was there anyone in the UK collecting rent from them or overseeing the house in general while you were away? As asked above I guess, an Agent of some sort?
If there is, then the Agent would have to advise them - in person would be a better idea, and give them it in writting - of your intent to return.

Pinky, I'm not disagreeing with anything you have said, but we all know that people can become unreasonable and turn nasty in matters like this. & it is more likely that they will be the ones to cause the upset, if things are not down in black & white!!
Only reason I mentioned Agent, is that would have being someone Curly could have worked with on her behalf.

To be honest Beauj, we would have been a bit stuck if the house would have sold. We have both said that we are glad it didn't sell now!!
It was a written contract that has been signed and witnessed. When we or my Dad go back to the UK for a visit we always go to the house for a visit. (I actually go to visit my friend, not to check the house as such). The rent is paid in to my Dads uk account every month.
They told us that they had discussed between themselves the possiblility of us moving back as soon as I told them I was pregnant, but we wanted to wait until we saw them in person before we gave them notice rather than over the phone. The contract says either party requires a month's notice but we've given them 2.
I totally understand that they are gonna be peed off about having to move out. I know I would if I thought I was going to be living there for a long time. I just think it's a shame to throw a friendship away over it.

Curly, you seem to have covered all angles, good for you and yes, you have kept to the agreement by giving them 2 months notice.
Re-issue it by Reg. Mail, that they have to sign for it.
Forget the friendship bit now. Don't bang yourself up over it, they are the ones at fault and not being good friends.
As sara3 put, you will have to get tough now. Good Luck. X X
