How much sick pay do you get? ie- if you had the flu today and really couldn't go in, would you still get paid? Would you get paid less? Would you need a Docs certificate? Assuming you are not self-employed.
My friend says the first 3 days don't count, he needs a sick note for them, and he only gets paid a fraction of his normal wage. I get paid my normal salary if I'm sick! What about you?

Statutory sick pay is payable to all employees earning more that £95 per week. It is worth a magnificent £79 per week. However it only starts to be paid after three waiting days.
You self certify your sickness for the first week after this a medical certificate can be insisted on by the employer
Some employers however pay additional sick pay which is contractual rather than required by statue legislation. If this additional sick pay in in the contract then it must be paid as per the terms described. If its not contacined in the contract then you are reliant on the statutory basic.

Hi, we self certify for the first week after which we need a doctor's certificate. Regarding long term sickness we are on full pay for up to six months followed by six months on half pay which probably sounds good compared to others but our employer has introduced the Bradford factor to discourage excessive sickness which is a whole new ball game because people now have to be very concious of their points score.
