Wasn't terribly pleasant and it was as bad as I thought it would be.

She took about 15 mins trying to get it out of my arm ewww and my arm felt well weird. I don't know if I would have another one again. Plus it left quite a hole in my skin I just hope it heals up ok.

Please don't feel compelled to answer these, but:

1) why did you have it removed (I'm profoundly sorry if it's due to the death of your partner)?

2) what (if any) means of contraceptive do you intend to use in its place?
Question Author
Death of my partner? no!

??

It ran out in November and so I needed to have it out. Well I don't know what I intend to use yet but I am not with anyone so theres no immediate urgency for me.
Didn't mean any disrespect. A good friend of mine recently had hers removed following the death of her husband of 13 years, and I sincerely hoped you were not in a similar situation...
how does a contraceptive in the arm work?
Question Author
It releases oestrogen or some chemical or other to stop an egg being released etc. Same way as the pill works basically. Just a small tube the size of a matchstick uner the surface of the skin releasing the chemical.
Question Author
Oh right MarkRae. No fortunately I'm not in that situation.
Just wondered if you had orifices unbeknown......in the arm ;)

Am not keen on FP through the blood stream - prefer the coil.
Question Author
I'm not keen on the idea of a metal wire thing in my delicate region!

I wish there was a perfect form of contraception!
Twice had mine removed and both times it left a very small(2mm)scar
Well worth it,even freaks people when you wiggle it under your skin ;-)
its not wire karma....it's similar to fishing nylon thread.
Question Author
is it? Oh I didn't realise. Sounds just as bad though.
Question Author
I'll see how this hole heals up before I consider another one. Apart from that I think it is really good the implant. I had major mood swings beginning and end but hardly any periods at all. Hope they come back soon, it ran out in November and still not returned.
Karma, obviously I'm not qualified to say how it feels from a woman's POV but, as regards its requirement to do the job for which it's inserted, I can assure you that it's undetectable by both parties...
Question Author
Which one are you talking about MarkRae? Implant or coil?
Karma, apologies - I realised as soon as I hit the "Submit answer" button that my post was ambiguous - I'm talking about the coil...
Question Author
thats ok, I do that sometimes! :-)

oh right - I'm sure you're right I just don't think its for me.

Theres a patch you can get now that you just stick on you like a plaster but that would be a bit unattractive really and might turn a man off!
> oh right - I'm sure you're right I just don't think its for me.

Fair enough. However, I can assure you that the women I've "known" who use one say that they can't feel it once it's been inserted by their gynaecologist...

LOL! I can assure you absolutely categorically that no man in the world would ever be put off by that! All you'd have to do is explain to him that the patch means that he doesn't have to wear a condom and you'd be the most beautiful woman in the world for a while... ;-)
Question Author
oh and most beautiful woman in the world ......for a while......I'd rather just be the most beautiful woman in the world but never mind haha
Karma, of course you would but, I'm afraid that's not how it works in the real world... ;-)

I strongly suspect that you know this already...
Question Author
Well actually no I do believe that if you meet the right man you will and should be the most beautiful woman in the world ....to him! :-)
