I have longish and really thick hair, ive never had it this long, it had always been short with choppy style, because ive been sooo lazy i havent had it cut for nearly 9 months. I have now noticed my hair is falling out easily when brushing and after i washed my hair and also breaking off, i was wondering is it to do with the weight of my hair or am i lack of some type of vitamins?

Do you use straighteners?
probably the weight but also like eyebrows and eyelashes your hair has a certain length it will grow to before it falls out so it is now getting there and you are noticing it more

noMercy i dont use straighteners my hair is already straight, i prob use it when im out, or when i feel like it, but i rarely use it.

4getmenot, but theres a lot of hair falling out, its where the crown area which is getting thinner, or feels thinner oh i dont know, mayb i've under alot of stress too. :-( stress bear
My hairdresser told me to take kelp... It's one of the best things for your hair, apparently.
get it cut then see what happens
Vitamin B12 is also good for hair - maybe you also should be getting regular trims to help with it breaking off at the ends.
My hair falls out in, what appears to be, clumps...it's still really thick though.
I lost hair years ago due to an iron deficiency. I also took Sea Kelp (from Holland and Barrett) and it was great.

maybe you need a blood test to check your iron levels?

thanks guys, some good advise, i will check out the kelp thing -never heard of it, but will visit H & B tmz ... mayb i should visit the hair dressers too for a trim :-S

all the hairdressers tat cuts my hair always says its very thick, they usually spend ages to cut my hair!! mayb ive blunt their scissors!! lol
Long hair stays in a brush & plughole to view as short hair doesn't, so loss isn't so noticeable with short hair.

Kelp is good if your hair is thinning but remember it increases growth all over the body. By a razor as well :)
Kelp also has another side effect for some people....lets just say silent but deadly....and I mean really vile...still you might be one of the lucky ones
You could try the GP for some blood tests. They would test B vits iron, maybe thyroid. Don`t know what age you are but it`s quite common around the time of the menupause. If you had some kind of trauma about 4 months ago, the cycle of the hair could have been disrupted and that causes loss. As you said it`s breaking off as well, it could be overprocessing.
How do you dry it? Using a hair dryer or rubbing too hard can weaken long strands.
