Putting contact lenses in

I am effectively new to doing this and whilst I was able to do this quite readily at the opticians yesterday, today (1st time at home) the right one required about half a dozen goes whereas the left one took about 15 minutes of repeated attempts.

It certainly felt like I was getting my finger tip right up to the surface of the eyeball but the lens just seemed to want to stick to the finger rather then transfer across.

Does anyone have any tips that they have found to make it easier? I'm sure practice will help but any suggestions would be welcome.

I was going to say that too bibblebub, the horror side of being able to see in the bathroom haha :)

I was told you shouldn't get water anywhere near the lenses either.

Are they hard or soft lenses? disposables or permanent? I have worn soft, monthly disposables for 20 years and shower and swim with them in, even scuba diving once. Some lenses can even be slept in. You'll get used to them, keep it up. Any problems go back to your optitian for a check and/or refit. You'll have a new outlook on life! Good luck

Jenna - it's been years since I last went swimming but I used to find that just being underwater magically restored my vision, everything looked so much much closer to being in focus.

sophie - it's probably a ruse by the lens solution manufacturers to make sure that you have to buy their products.

This has just been day 2 of wearing monthly disposable soft lenses, wheaten; 8 hours today, 12 hours tomorrow, 16 on Monday.

I did wear contacts for a short period in the early 1980s but those that were available back then meant that I could only keep them in for about 8 hours a day (they'd just pop out because of dryness) - totally inconvenient when one is out of the house for 9+ hours working.

I've been wearing them for 30yrs now, they are the best thing I have ever bought! Apart from the ones i purchased in the 80's they were the hard ones and absolutely killed me!! I'll have a shower and go swimming but I try my best not to get water in my eyes! I still have to put them in and take them with a mirror! I put lots of solution on them and i never have a problem. Mine are the monthly ones from Specsavers well worth £10 pm!

Lots of people swim and shower in their lenses and have no problems. People often think that the reason not to swim in their lenses is the chlorine but it's not. Google acanthamoeba and contact lenses. Low risk but a risk in any case so not advisable.
