Also, it is not advisable for women to use soap "there" as you advise as it can lead to fungal infections such as thrush, not a pleasant experience!
Do understand what you mean about stepping away from the shower to apply soap though!

To the best of my knowledge: While being the modern way, using enzyme powders at low temperatures is not as effective in the context of this thread as raising the temperature using appropriate agents. External washing with soap or similar does not carry/increase a risk of infection while not washing does. As for thrush, cystitis and similar afflictions, the type of clothing worn is also an issue. Some cleaning materials and potion manufacturers and salesmen will however dispute this because they have a vested interest while other "experts" will broadly agree.

I tend to go with the antibacterial thing and use bodywashes such as Sanex or Carex and find that really helps.
I also find using a scrub and one of those massage sponges with the rougher bit on them helps me feel cleaner.
I use the mitchum roll on then an unperfumed spray deodorant (I am paranoid about sweating and smelling!) making sure I cover both anti perspirant and deodorant, that my armpits are properly dry first and the spray is far enough away from my underarms when spraying.
I carry one of those little things of antibacterial handwash if I need to have a freshen up during the day and always have deodorant in my bag.
I try and wear clothes which keep me cool (am usually too hot if anything) and away from my underarms if possible and especially keep my feet cool as find that keeps the rest of me cooler.
