Why do many men like young girls/women?

I have never ever really understood the state of almost infatuation that older males have with really young girls/women 16+ is this something to do with ego or as the male gets older does he look in the mirror and see a virile 17 year old youth staring back? I could understand an older male going for a woman that's in her 30's-40's as you get a woman in her prime as well as an experienced and often intelligent person. What exactly does a 17 year old have to offer a 30-70 male? Just their bodies? Funny thing is sometime you see young girls taking these old men for a ride, taking their money and using them without ever giving up anything as far as I'm concerned. Is it a trophy thing? Is that it? Is that all some men want in their latter years?

like andy says, it's genetics. Men want women able to bear and raise healthy children. Women want good providers - men mature enough to pay for the upbringing of said children and not go chasing other women.

Leftover older women can satisfy themselves with the leftover toyboys.

Men are genetically designed to be attracted to young women. This is because young women are a better bet for pregnancy and health, so his seed is more likely to turn into a baby. Interestingly, men's heads are turned by blondes as blonde hair usually means youth; in the days before bleach was invented, only very young women had blonde hair, since it soon goes brown.
