My German teacher was called Mr Dwyer but as it was a German lesson we had to call him Herr Dwyer!

There used to be a company of solicitors called Philpott, Platt and Niblett. (mibbe there still is) Used to crack me up..still makes me smile..

Trognon. French surname - means "cabbage stalk" . There was a court case where the French authorities tried to stop a couple from giving their adopted child the surname, because the authorities thought the child would be tormented.

I had cousins names Maycock and I read in the paper once years ago of someone called Hogsflesh. His girl friend would not marry him unless he changed it, which I believe he did.

Clyde - I used to work for them!!! They had just changed their name (from Dunn and Co) and had kept the same phone number so no one expected to hear 'Philpott, Platt and Niblett' when they called. The reactions were always hysterical. It was genuinely the partners' names too. They still exist but are now Philpott, Platt, Niblett and Wight

There was a firm in Bolton called Mansell, Hunt and Catty. You had to be careful how you said it...

And a local family's ancestors came from Eastern Europe, and felt their name was a bit difficult, so they changed it from Ratowski to Ratoff...

I used to work with a guy many years ago with the surname DICK. Not unusual or odd or funny etc. His first name was Ben. So far so good. What he always kept to himself until I saw his driving licence was that his middle names were Ivor (family name) and and Grant ( name his mum really liked.)
I am sure it was all very innocent, but always makes me chuckle. It never made him laugh though even though it was very true. Happy days.
