I have been asked out to a birthday lunch from a man I met a year ago.
I dont know him well as we have only really said hello, only seen him about half a dozen times in passing. I saw him yesterday in town and he said his birthday was next month and he asked if I would go to lunch and he named a place and said he would pick me up in the car.
We are not youngsters TBH. He seems very pleasant. If I go do I take a card/present, Do I offer to pay, not sure what to do as I have not had a lunch date with a man for some time now.

In what circumstances did you meet him and do you know anyone else who knows him, just from a safety point of view. I'm not sure I'd be happy being picked up by someone I barely knew when on my own. I'd feel better meeting him wherever we were going.
Do you have any of his details like address or phone number, full name etc...? I'd definitely leave details with a friend where you are going and txt to check in.
If all good then I'd take a general Happy Birthday card and I'd never assume I wasn't paying at least my half and make sure I had the means to do so (similarly get myself home alone safely whenever I needed to).

Totally agree with you jenna. Not knowing him very well is perhaps a good reason to make your own way there and definitely let someone know when/where you are going.
Sorry if it takes the fun and spontaneity out of your first date but you never know.
I would take a card and be prepared to pay your half, if he pays then you're quids in.
Hope all goes well, whatever you decide.

I met him walking in to town last year , it was a sunny day and we had to pass each other in a tight spot. We got talking and got on well.
I only know his first name, he is normally with his brother when I see him, I dont know any one that knows him, I mhave seen him go into a house in town so I assume he lives there. He has the same doctor as me, that ius where he was going when I first met him. I have told my friends. May be would be better if I met him there yes.
