KA Hand brake stuck on.

Can anyone give me some advice on how to free a stuck on hand brake

It sounds like one of the seal for the brake fluid is leaking check your fluid level you should find it in a little bottle under the bonnet if it is low. Top it up with brake fluid then carefully drive away slowly to release handbrake.


If it is the seal then you will have the problem till it's repaired and the brake drum cleaned


It's actually a simple job todo but it can be messy if your not sure what your doing best go to either a garage or tyre centre

Pull the handdbrake lever on and off and get someone to check the linkage from the cable to the levers on the backplates -- might have seized there. If the levers are moving and the brakes are still binding then take the wheels off and give the drums a good whack with a hammer - this should 'ping' them free but you will have to have to take the drums off at some point to clean and lubricate the shoe mechanism and adjusters.
I suggest that while homer75's idea is Ok in principle, that you don't use a steel hammer to hit the brake drums unless you want a cracked one, use either a rubber hammer or a big piece of hard wood.
