Can you love somebody too much? that you want to protect them and your relationship whatever it takes? You have something so good that you dont want anything or anyone to spoil it.

When does this verge on being over-protective and not just loving?

How do you strike the balance?

You've been hurt before and want to stop that happening again because you feel you have found the one.

It starts getting over protective when you start not wanting them to have any sort of life outside of the relationship.

I think what ummmm has said is very true. The mature thing is being able to recognise that however much you enjoy being together, both parties in a relationship still need a little bit of space where they can be an individual in their own right, rather than being part of a couple. This may include the freedom to participate in a hobby of some kind which perhaps your partner doesn't like or enjoy, and being allowed the freedom to do this, knowing that neither of you will abuse the trust which exists between you.
