What are the acceptable limits of personal privacy in a long term relationship these days? In my younger years it was considered unacceptable for a woman to access a man's wallet, or for a man to open a lady's handbag, but where is the line of acceptability in this day and age? Is it acceptable for example for partners to have open access to each others computers, email, or telephones in a long term relationship? What are your views?
Are we saying that total freedom of access is acceptable? What about opening each others mail? Phoning unknown names in an address book to check on who they are? Are these also acceptable in an openness policy? Where is the line drawn?
I open all the post in our house regardless of whether it is addressed to me or Mr BagPuss and I have his debit card in my wallet and use of his pin number. He trusts me and I trust him so there are no secrets between us. I would draw the line at "Phoning unknown names in an address book to check on who they are?" as this would mean that I do not trust him. That would just be like spying on him!
