i just really couldn't, i've heard stories of girls using men just to buy them things and i really can't see how they can do that. could you imagine yourself doing it? what would you do if the person you asked said no?

I am not surprised. Gifts do not equate with physicallity.
If someone I knew well had the resources to be able to help me out of a sticky financial situation and I was confident that I could either pay them back or help them out similarly, then yes.
