Onwards and Downwards Continues in January 2014
Happy New Year,
Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.
I hope you all had the Christmas and New Year you wished for, don't know about you but I over-indulged (and it was yummy).
Let's get back to basics what are you favourite and most helpful diet tips? Things that have worked for you.
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge! Here is last months thread

Thank you, I am told I eat at the wrong times (ie not until 1300/1400 hrs - with my last snack around 2100. I was advised I do not eat enough, and my body panics.
So from tomorrow, some big changes.
5 days a week I will make our main meal lunch, the other 2 days are out of the question due to commitments.
I must also start eating some kind of breakfast, something I have not done in over 50 years.

For what it is worth I am unconvinced about times to eat and times not to. For sure you ought not skip a meal and then find yourself either snacking to satisfy hunger later as you'll end up taking in more calories that way. That includes breakfast. Try to eat at the same times each day as then your body/mind will know when to expect it. And yes, one can eat too little. It's certainly my excuse.
Og has hit the nail on the head yes you can eat too little . Breakfast is most important but just be careful of the sugar content in cereals. I have been having porridge for a few days then boiled egg and 1 slice of toast the others. Skipping meals and eating late is fatal.
Ferlew can you not take nibbles on your commitments days for lunch such as carrot sticks some fruit ect.
Jan yes I think most of us are still trying to get the xmas surplus off but well done to you with the weight you have already lost you are on your way again.

ferlew I can't see what is wrong with your lunch times....when do they say you should eat lunch? I eat between 1:30 and 3 at the latest....only if we have been running errands. I have also now found it wise to have a cup of tea and a filler between 3 and 4 and that way I am fine until dinner time.....usually a rusk with Lidl's Linesssa Balance with Yogurt 8% fat topped off with a slice of red bell pepper or grated carrot. I'm going through a carrots phase at the moment and have grated carrot and lemon juice with just a bit of salt with lunch and dinner instead of salad....this can be made up and stored.
Why don't you start with just the one thing and build up. Having for force yourself to eat would be terribly unpleasant. Do you like eggs? A boiled or poached egg on toast is also good now and then. I say now and then because the egg yolk consists of among other things, 13% fat so it is best to not eat too many of them. You could also sprinkle your yogurt with musli. Please let us know how it goes.....I wake up starving so this is a very unique situation in my books.
