Onwards and Downwards Continues in November 2014
Hello all,
Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.
With Christmas and party season on the horizon some of us may want to look our best for that special do. And while you are all doing a fantastic job in the weight department we mustn't forget that self-esteem also comes from within and a dynamite outfit can give a massive confidence boost. If we feel good inside we look good outside. OK enough pep talk here are a few links that you may find helpful when shopping or looking at your wardrobe:
This one is good for both men and women :-)

The main conclusion seems to be that shaped and tailored fitting clothes will flatter most shapes even if they are slightly fuller. So ladies and gents lets flaunt what we've got and show the world that while we are trying to change our shape we are still amazing!!
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

You should continue to eat a healthy variety of food types. Simply analyse if you are overindulgin g in one.

Last night I returned home from Tenerife, where I completely forgot all about dieting for a couple of weeks. I ate whatever I wanted, drank far more than I should have done and had an altogether fantastic time. I did lots of swimming - I calculated that I swam the equivalent of about 6 miles over the course of my holiday and I am delighted to announce that I lost another two pounds while I was away. This morning I have been and treated myself to a pair of jeans two sizes smaller than my last pair and I'm absolutely thrilled to bits.
This is all going very wrong.
As mentioned I bought some stuff for the stir fry Saturday, and Sunday found a different supermarket that actually had aubergines, so bought one.
So I am at my woman's most of the weekend and for the late Sunday meal, before I left, she made a casserole type dish with new potatoes. And of course made far more than we needed (as is often the case) so I get packed off with the excess; enough for 2 more evening meals at least.
I get back and note that some of the stuff I've bought for the stir fry is 'use Monday'. I know how keen veg & fruit is to go off so I feel I have to cook that on the Monday.
Turns out I've got so much it filled the large wok, and takes, well I wasn't timing it but at least half hour to cook through properly.
I then have ⅓rd for yesterday's meal. It needed salt and eventually I added anchovy sauce, as otherwise it was not particularly great: but what can one expect, it is veg.
Then the problem. I only have a small fridge. It is packed with the stuff I wasn't anticipating bring back from the weekend. I've had to leave ⅔rds of the stir fry in the wok overnight, with no real idea how to eat it all before something decides to grow on it.
In addition I totalled up the ingredients and even excluding the oil I added to fry it in, it doesn't seem that "lighter" in calories to what I'd normally have.
I think this has been a failed experiment.

Good Morning All,
I've gone down a pound this week which is a bigger loss that I usually have so I'm quite pleased. I expect that you all are trying to loose in order to make room for all your Christmas goodies. Instead of telling us what you aren't eating how about telling us what you are eating with hope it will give us some new ideas.

Well done Xstitcher and Wendilla, I've lost 1 pound over the last three weeks :-) I have just been given a nice pedometer from Freecycle, so I'm hoping to start enjoying walks. I've been trying to have smaller evening meals, and I don't mind only losing a pound every three weeks as it's in the right direction.
I bought a pedometer once. Managed to lose it out somewhere ! Make sure it's well tied on to your clothing, or something.
Was never that convinced it was accurate. I used to count the number of steps I took and the pedometer always came in at a lower value. Still, if it encouraged one to walk further, better an error that way than too high a figure.

I used to like maths when I was younger but as life went on I got to use the interesting stuff less. Unsure how much my old brain can cope with now. Maths did get rather "stretching" in Uni though.
For sure my scales do "lie" and I need to take multiple readings to get one I can be confident in. But I was assuming it was clear, ever since I had an inexplicable jump up one day, that I've been in denial of any suggestion it was correct. Nothing 6lbs or more is any longer believed or recorded. Clearly I have to be at least a stone down on this time last year, but the scales refuse to admit it.
