Onwards and Downwards Continues in November 2014

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

With Christmas and party season on the horizon some of us may want to look our best for that special do. And while you are all doing a fantastic job in the weight department we mustn't forget that self-esteem also comes from within and a dynamite outfit can give a massive confidence boost. If we feel good inside we look good outside. OK enough pep talk here are a few links that you may find helpful when shopping or looking at your wardrobe:

This one is good for both men and women :-)

The main conclusion seems to be that shaped and tailored fitting clothes will flatter most shapes even if they are slightly fuller. So ladies and gents lets flaunt what we've got and show the world that while we are trying to change our shape we are still amazing!!

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Here is last months thread

You should continue to eat a healthy variety of food types. Simply analyse if you are overindulging in one.

If any of you are on Facebook, there is a page called Make at Home meals. I post my meals on there, complete with a calorie total
I don't do Facebook, how about the rest of you?
Thank you Wendilla :-)
Stir fry or no stir fry, I have just worked out the intake for the week, having left myself quick notes as to what was eaten each evening. Really not a good way to do things, I'm hampered by the fact my usual method of calculating as I go, is no longer really available to me - I must try to work out a way to sort that.

Anyway the upshot is that it makes for depressing reading. I only came near the daily goal once (yesterday) and so no wonder I'm not achieving. Despite the stir fry thing, I don't feel I'm really in control. I return home late Sunday with stuff to eat during the week (no I can't refuse or just sling) any normally that hasn't been an issue but, oh I don't know, it is something I have to cope with and I suspect not helping.

And I did intend to freeze half the loaf this week, and survive on the other half, but it didn't happen. In fact I defrosted another loaf last night just so I could have my usual Saturday toast breakfast. I don't know how I used so much, it's almost unique to defrost another loaf Friday night, especially ironic as it was this week I'd intended to cut down.

I have to do something, I'm just unsure what. It should be simple, eat less or/and lower energy food, but I've not discovered where I'm going so wrong that it can be put right. Maybe I just need to get used to feeling hungry and distracted al the time. Never used to be like this though. Something's changed.
Why don't you have a word with your practise nurse or GP OG? They have the means to put you on the right track. My doctor and nurse have been a wonderful support and motivators.
I tend to think, unless the situation is "morbid" that weight loss is more something you treat yourself for. Not sure what the medical profession can say apart from, Pull yourself together and stop complaining".

I have just checked to see if I have gone back to being obese. I think different sites must perform different calculations or definitions or something. Just visited www.netdoctor.co.uk (I note the co.uk and wonder why they ask for one's weight in pounds only !) to find they claim I'm only a short distance into overweight, and nowhere near obese. This seems strange for my memory suggests I've not dropped that much since I was happy to have dropped out of there. Still it is good they think I'm not so bad. Still made no progress over the last year though, and seeing things start to rise again.

Going to definitely have to sit down and work out a plan. What has worked for me in the past isn't still doing so.
It agrees I'm only overweight not obese. But it suggests I lose a further 37lbs. Were I to do that, then I'd equal the level I managed about 25 years ago when EVERYONE told me I'd gone too far and was painfully thin. I sometimes wonder if the medical profession has a clue.
Does it say you need to lose 37lbs to get within the Healthy Weight section? Or would that loss take you to the mid point of the Healthy Weight section?
To the mid point. The thing being that, that implies perfection, weightwise. But no one was convinced before.
I'm not going to go down to the mid point of Healthy Weight because it wouldn't suit me. If people have told you that you look too thin when you go down to the mid point then I would believe them if I were you. The BMI guides are only guides and they admit that, so don't treat them as gospel. They don't account for muscular builds or stocky builds or large frames. How much do you need to lose to get into the edge of the Healthy Weight?
There was some controversy a few years ago re the BMI was for men and didn't allow for female differences... http://www.nutracheck.co.uk/BMICalculatorforWomen/
The NHS one does differentiate between men and women, but they are just a rough guide.
I'm into my 3rd week with Slimming World and I've lost 9lbs.

Keep up the good work, LH
Thank you jomlett. I will.
Well done, Lardhelmet!!
