Onwards And Downwards Continues In June 2015

Hello all,
Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.
I hope everyone has been enjoying the small amount of warmer weather we had in the last couple of weeks, I think we are now into the April showers though!
Hopefully, the weather will start to really pick up and the traditional summer barbecues can really get going.
I think this is a great way to eat healthy, lots of salad (without dressing or with low fat if necessary) and plenty of protein, as long as it is cooked all the way through :-)
Here are a couple of bbq recipes which are healthy and remember if it rains you can always just go indoors and cook on the grill:

This looks yummy and you could always chuck in something different if you didn't like the ingredients.

Sometimes no matter how great your meal is if you slather it with a full fat, high salt and sugar sauce you can be in trouble but making your own sauces can be really easy and you don't have to have bbqed the dinner to enjoy extra flavour

This is a healthy version of a basic bbq sauce, it is from an american site so obviously molasses means syrup :-)
and something a little different:

Enjoy!
Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

Yesterday the house dietiation visited me and believe it or not they are going to prepare special food for me so I won't put on weight. We are spoiled rotten here but we do work hard. Carry on the good losses.

UPDATE: today has been truly magical. I was able to stand up from my wheel chair. I had a person holding me on each side in case I crumpled (which I didn't). I was hoping for this to happen one day in the far future but never dreamed it would come so soon. I have also been granted a further two weeks stay here which will bring it to a total of 7 weeks so I'm over the moon.
Thank you all for your kind wishes. They mean a lot.

Decided to do something about my weight.......not good to carry too much after two hip operations. Joined Slimming World with my DIL and lost 7 lbs but just couldn't get my head round it. Now go for a 5 mile walk twice a week and have joined WW. Have lost another 5 lbs so a couple more to my stone. Feeling good and my head seems to be in the right place to carry on.
Will look in when I can.

Welcome Maggie and well done with your weight loss so far. You will find nothing but encouragement here, along with some useful tips and ideas when you're feeling stuck.
Along with the fairly obvious cakes, sweets and biscuits, I have cut out bread and pastry. Rice cakes are my best friends along with Total 0% yoghurt ,and at the moment, strawberries!

An absolute disastrous week. Not helped by an alleged increase of 1 lb over the last 24 hours. Not helped by the foodtypes I'm given over the weekend, but a weekly result that is still way out of kilter to what it should reasonably be. Up 2.4 lbs apparently. There is no reason it should be that bad. Small increase of level I could understand but that ? I'm back to the 'why do I bother' period once more.
Morning all oh dear OG don't say that you should not say not bother. .I feel like that too sometimes but still carry on .I have still stayed the same buts that's a bonus to what I had last week so I have to make sure it don't catch up with me .
Welcome Maggi and you have made a good start . Plan your meals for the week and write everything down it helps to plan your meals for the following week . It is when you don't know what to have and you have not got it that we tend to stray . We try to come on here on Wednesdays but feel free to come on anytime during the week .
Xstitcher nothing but praise for you . Keep up the good work.

Good morning all,
Maggie you are very welcome and I hope that we can be of help.
Oh dear OG you are a bit down. What if you and the giver of the unhelpful foods put your heads together and made up some delicious healthier menus. Anything is possible.
I have put on 6 lbs BUT before you exile me to those naughty steps let me say that they are 6 pounds of rejuvenated muscles with the result that yours truly walked today for the first time in 3 months on a tall walker without any extra support, just two physios there for safety. I have had my time here extended by two weeks and am just over the moon. There are no words to describe my feelings!

Thanks for the encouragement folks.
Very good to hear you are on the mend x.
Yeah, not sure I want to effectively "criticise" they who feeds me on the weekends. :-) If I were to bring up planning it's imply they weren't doing what they should which isn't fair.
The fact is bringing back half a cream sponge from their mother and splitting it between us; and insisting of milk coffees and hot chocolate or they get disappointed, doesn't help. Neither does higher fat/calorie meals; although they are more uncommon. But a pork lion joint not only provided a meal each Sunday but I ended up with it Monday & Tuesday too ! (The package said it was for eight portions not four too.)
Normally a higher intake weekend is something I can accommodate having lost more during the week, but of late it seems to be a contributing. And the loss days aren't necessarily losing either at present, so the weekend can't be the only cause. I'm supposed to want to eat less in warmer weather but ....
I really need to get a handle on things without feeling permanently deprived.
Ho hum, let's see what next Wednesday brings.
