Onwards and Downwards Continues in August 2015

Hello all,

Welcome to this month's Onwards & Downwards. We welcome anyone serious about losing weight and we offer support and kind thoughts - not magic fixes, just sensible help.

The long hot summer holidays are here and I know some of you are entertaining young folk at home. This can make it tricky to keep an eye on your in-take. But here are some tasty kid friendly snacks that are also annoyingly healthy:

For a savory snack try this yummy looking lemon and coriander houmous served with chopped vegetable sticks or bread sticks:

These instant frozen berry treats look easy to make as well:

Even easier are these make your own spring rolls:

and you could swap in other veg and ingredients.

And of course, simply leaving out a plate of chopped up veg and fruit like apples, carrots, cucumber and grapes, can seem to disappear without them even noticing they are eating healthily ;-)

Don't forget your weekly weigh on Wednesday and remember we don't judge!

sympathies OG I agree about the water and when it gets boring add a dash of low sugar cordial. When you're shopping buy a few things for these very moments. Like a ounnet of strawberries or an apple, or a few low fat snacks. If you don't have anything you're more likely to eat something inappropriate! Otherwise its a case of finding a distraction if just a walk...

What is it with Wednesdays these days? They come and go and I barely notice them sometimes, let alone remember to weigh. Like you Wendilla, its time for me to focus again. Sorry not to have been about for a couple of weeks, but I'm pleased to hear you're onward and very nearly upright xstitcher. You 're doing brilliantly, and remain an inspiration for us all.

Keep at it everyone and remember that what suits others might not suit you. Just find a sensible eating plan and be easy on the portions, easy on the fats and carbs and very easy on the sugar.

Personally my trousers are a wee bit tight this morning and that's what usually prompts me to remember that my goal is actually to be a size smaller in the trouser department! So I'll be back with you next week, its a date!

Hi Maydup, thank you for your kind words to me and wise words to all of us. Now that summer is on the wan and life gets back to normal I expect our little club will take up where it wandered off.
Oh dear oh dear oh dear...up four pounds ........but not really because I was weighed AFTER breakfast and with all my clothes and my shoes on so watch this space tomorrow.
You'll be fine tomorrow. Clothes and breakfast weigh quite a bit.
I'm still trying to lose the weight I put on, on holiday. Nearly there.
Thanks for the support maryjn. I hope your holiday pounds are soon a thing of the past. I'm against keeping the rules on a holiday. If you otherwise are sticking to healthy eating, which you are, then a lovely sinful respite isn't going to upset the apple cart.
Good morning all,

Much better results today but still over what I should be...just 2 pounds so hopefully I can take care of them quickly now that life is getting back to normal almost.

Sure you will.
Anyway my weight's up today too, and I barely went over target yesterday.
I suspect the weekend will see a drop though :-O
Are you having me on OG!
Weighed in this morning and have lost another half a pound. Only a pound to go and I will hit the stone and a half mark. Feeling motivated :)
Way to go Maggie. It feels fab doesn't it!
Thanks for the reassurance, Xstitcher.
Well done, Maggiebee

Thanks folk, really appreciate the support on this site. Onwards and downwards right enough.
Marijm you are going the right way so easy to put it on but with determination you will get there .

Well done maggibee you too will get there . If I did not keep on here I am sure I would gain . I still have that stone to lose but I too will get there . When xstitcher and I started these posts I had 3 stone to lose . Lost 2 and a bit but playing around too much wth this last stone . As long as I don't gain I will get there if I did not stay the same for a few weeks but I know my problem it is just disaplinning it .
I think the last stone is the hardest Wendilla because we allow ourselves too mant "treats" with the thought in mind that were almost there.
So so true xstitcher .
Having you on ? Not at all x. I dropped minus 0.6 pounds over the last 3 days and I only had about 5¼ days worth of intake :-(

The weekends where I have less control are becoming long weekends and sometimes they just get foolish.
Thank you Wendilla. I'm good in that I don't buy sweets and biscuits etc, but my downfall is that I find it impossible to say "No" when other people offer me things. :-(
Good morning All,

I'm the same as last week if I choose to believe my own scales. Yesterday I was weighed at training with clothes and shows on and after my breakfastn and it shower 2 lbs up which I found hard to believe so I'll stick to what my scales tell me.
Morning all. I've weighed in today after a few weeks off and am pleasantly suprised to be about the same weight. Pleasantly surprised because I've been tempted by a few treats recently and have struggled all the more with my sweet tooth. But I realise that the difference between me now and a couple of years ago, it that my overall eating patterns are much more sensible and those treats don't have such drastic effects as a generally poor diet.

I chose low fat options, fill up with plenty of vegetables, love salads, avoid too many carbs, use almond milk on sugar free cereal (oatabix or porridge) enjoy berries, avoid cakes, sweets, pastry and desserts, no meat, limited amount of cheese.

Just made my salad lunch to take to work, today its feta and apple with a light dressing and a packet of Snack a Jacks!
Morning all.

Errr.... up 1.6 lbs. It has not been a good week. Looks like being unemployed isn't good for me. Maybe partly the 3 day weekends when I have much reduced control, and being in a period of doing (and avoiding) multiple small jobs instead of being engrossed for hours at a time, allowing me to realise I'm peckish. I need to find coping strategies.
