What Do You Hate Paying For.......
79 Answers
With me it is carrier bags. I always take my own bags but today I forgot. I wouldn't complain if the bags were plain but I refuse to pay for a bag with the shop name all over it. So cutting off my nose to spite my face I struggled. I had it in my hand bag and in my pockets. I know I sound like a tight cow but I'm not. It is the principle that I'm paying them to advertise their shop.
So what do you hate paying for?

I totally agree - my philosophy is why should I pay to advertise the shop/company (although I do have Tesco Bags for Life - but they get used in Asda, Aldi and Lidl, even in Poundland!)
I have voiced my dis-satisfaction in Markies - "do you want a bag" - only to find after I left the shop that it had been added to the receipt.
Next time I was there I commented that I had not been told I would be charged for a bag and I object to pay to advertise etc. - so out came the Tesco bag
However, I wasn't charged at all twice this week in Markies!

My pet hate (I could go into full-on rant mode here, but I'll try not to) is companies hiding their Customer Service function behind premium rate numbers - 087x 084x etc etc.
These cost a fortune to ring from mobiles and (apart from 0870 and/or 0845 which are free on some packages now) are expensive to call from landlines.
Although saynoto0870 is great it doesn't always find a geographic number to use - plus I really don't see why I should have to go to the bother.
It's an absolute disgrace that Ofcom (whose mission statement ought to be "Striving to be as Effective as a Chocolate Fireguard") have done bugger all about this. I believe the much reviled EU may be acting to outlaw this gouging of customers - if so they will have my profound thanks.

Hospital Parking should be free for NHS patients - full stop.
Visitors should be able to get a 'free exit token' if someone is in for more than (say) 48 hours.
The argument that parking facilities would then be abused by people who are not patients or visitors is specious - most new hospitals are well outside town/city centres and no-one would want to park there unless using the hospital. If there is a problem, it would be perfectly possible to issue exit tokens to bona fide users of the hospital.
If staff parking is an issue then they could be charged an appropriate monthly amount for a permit (in line with other parking in the vicinity).

maggiebee said "I hate paying for air to blow up my car tyres."
My local garage used to charge 20p but recently put this up to 50p. When I queried it the man behind the counter said "that's inflation for you".
I agree that it's right to charge for carrier bags but, like Jeza, I would go to great lengths to avoid paying my 5p/10p
