I pay 72 a month as a single person. This seems like a liberty to me, on top of normal tax!

How much do you pay a month?

110 as a single OAP. :(
Well have you thought what it goes on ??? Fire, police, roads, libraries, and a million other things you might not even think of .........

Mine's over 100 a month too.

I don't mind paying it but my gripe's with the 25% discount. I don't have 2 salaries coming in (and yeah, I know a lot of family homes don't either, but there's the extras - child allowance, tax credits, etc.) so why don't I get a 50% discount. And then there's water rates. Don't even get me started on that ! ;o)

124 a month for small rented flat

We pay 120 a month

CW1 - the reason you only get a 25% discount is because, unlike the poll tax ( sorry, community charge), it is in essence not a personal tax but a property tax. You can get a 50% discount - but only by not living in your house ; - )

91 per month after discount for a one-bedroomed flat. This includes water charges and the flat is in Band B.
I don't pay anything as we don't have it on the Isle of Man. We also have low rates, 10% income tax at basic rate and 20% at higher rate and free eye tests with cheap prescriptions (3.20 per item). Our postage is 3p cheaper than the UK as well. Mind you its a b****r trying to get cheap flights off the island .The price of petrol is higher as well, but we don't have MOT's, for which I am eternally grateful (if you saw my car you'd understand!)
Yes but it doesn't cost any less to have the fire/police/ambulance etc. available to you than it does to a family of five ...................... everybody seems to think it goes on things like refuse collection when that is only about 30p a week or something !!!!
We pay 120 a month and a bloody rip off it is as well.!!!

110 for a 2 bed semi, two of us.

I don't resent paying so much, as a good proportion of it goes towards the index linked pensions of the hard-working council staff, so they can quit at 60 instead of 67, or whatever it'll be when I retire.

It's 50% based on the property element and 50% based on 2 or more people living there so if you've got 1 person you pay 75%. It does seem a lot but if you had to pay for all the services that district/city/county councils provide I bet it would be more than that.
