I work in a cafe and my boss took a phone call the other day from a guy stating he was phoning all the local companies pre-warning them of the 'new' legislation coming inforce for 2008 about air-conditioning for ALL businesses. Apparantly from 2008 all business must comply with this new rule and install air-conditioning. Now he didn't state he was a salesman though it very much sounded like a salescall to us, though my boss is trying to find out if there is any such new 'rule' coming into place in the new year. Does anyone know about this or where we can get any info of the new government legislations for the new year before they actually come into force. Thanks. MLx

I only know of legislation coming in early next year that will see compulsory regular inspections of air conditioning in business premises.

I haven't heard anything about compulsory air conditioning, and in light of the current fight against greenhouse gases and carbon footprints, my initial reaction is this is highly unlikely.

However, I don't know for definite - but your local council certainly will, or will point in the right direction.

Telephone the council.
I think the answer is not to take sales calls. Register your phone number with TPS and then anyone making sales calls will be breaking the law. Salesmen will try and tell you anything to get a sale.
