Loss of Benefits.

My brother -in-law aged 83, lives alone in a council flat. He has savings of �7,500 and would like to know how much he can have in the bank before his benefits are affected. Thank you.

There is not a straightforward answer - it depends on the type of benefits and pension credits he gets:

There is no doubt the government will find out about his savings as they are subject to income tax and the Inland Revenue will be aware.
