Do Grandparents have any access rights to see grandchildren?

For example - an unmarried couple have two children. The father is on both birth certificates and they have been living together for a few years.

Does the paternal grandmother have any legal rights to see the kids? Does it make any difference if the couple split up?

None whatsoever by default. They may, of course, become legal guardians of their grandchildren...

Sadly not - delicate and careful negotiation within the family is currently the only way to go, as far as I am aware. Sad it is too in most cases.

As a Grandfather of two the answer is, unfortunately, none (Scots law)
