My father...........
1 Answers
died in 1984. My mother remarried 5 years later to a man who had been divorced twice. (3 boys to his 1st wife.) I never liked him from the start. I found him to be a bigoted, overbearing blowhard. BUT, he made my mum happy & I have been nice to him for her sake. We have had the odd argument but nothing too serious.
As he's getting older, (they are 78 & 76) he's getting worse. No-one visits them, because of him. He will talk & talk & never let anyone else talk. If someone does, he will simply talk over them. And if there is a break in the conversation & someone brings up something new, he will break in again. He is the only one who is right - if you say for instance you're going to raise cows, he'll say, you should raise sheep. And he exaggerates. And he thinks ALL young people are troublemakers. And he will not listen to the truth about something he's talking about that's wrong. Today I mentioned I was making lanyards. He said did anyone know what they were. (They have 2 friends staying for a week.) We all said yes, but he proceeded to tell us what they were!
Mum has many, many times, over the years, asked him not to talk over her, (in private of course) & he says, sorry he won't do it again.
Once, about 4 years ago, she had had enough & got in the car & took off for a week by herself.
She tells us, (me & 3 other siblings) to NEVER bring anything up in front of him as he'll go on & on about it for weeks. Their neighbours, which they have lived beside for 15 years, are renovating their house & have done this & that to the property over those years too, are in his eye's doing it all wrong. So for 15 years Mum has had his gripes about them - every day!
