What would you do?

Hi, my 12 year old daughter has asked for the day off of school to go to a CD signing!
I have said no....reasons being....
She's just had a month of school....Christmas and 'snow days'
It would mean her travelling into London.

She says...it's not her fault she's missed so much school
I said...It's not my fault that this 'pop star' chooses a school day for an event like this!

Absent father says I am a bad parent and should let her go!

What would you do.

Will be back later....off now to my full time job....to support ungrateful child as absent father doesn't.

I never had one day off school. Does that make me sad lol. I actually got a certificate in a special assembly at end of high school, was so embarrasing. the teacher said 'theres one girl here who has 100% attendance she knows who she is, can 4getmenot please come up' then my classmate shouted 'she's not here today' lol

Mine have really good attendance. That's why I don't mind the odd day. I always let them have their birthday off school if they want. They usually chose to go though.

I know a woman who if she cant be bothered to walk them to school keeps them home.

I walked my son to school everyday regardless....it's a 5 mile round trip. Twice a day. Some mornings I really wouldn't want to do it but it's my job.

I was under the impression that she was and that this was a one off thing she was asking for, but given your statement of "devil spawn", we're led to believe that she's a horror bag anyway?

Not anymore 4get. When I moved in with BF...it was just a bit too far to walk so I started getting the bus. Now I have a car.....I need to get some exercise in somewhere...when I can be bothered :-)

I walked all 3 of my children to school every day when they were in primary school, my son's school was only 10 minutes away though when we moved to this house, before that it was a 3 mile round trip twice a day, we rarely caught the bus because it is a rural area we live in and the buses are tiny and packed with teenage school children. I never learned to drive and have never wanted to learn. I miss being able to walk that far, i'm lucky to make it to the corner shop and back these days.lol :)

A definite no from me on this one.Travelling to London , being in a strange venue with loads of strangers no way .She would be exposed to too many risk factors.Stand by your decision, you will not be popular, but as parents we have a responsibility for the safety of our children as far as is possible.

Well, on second thoughts, if the aspirations of the parents to the education of the child was educational apathy, then sure......let her go to London Town....Dick Turpin did O.K.
