You should regularly give them some broth, without any bread, then whip them all soundly, and send them to bed. It's the only language that they understand.

I can't think of any reason why it's acceptable to smack akid and yet not smack and adult!! If your other half misbehaved would you smack 'em one? That would be called domestic violence!

i must add the hiding were across the legs and backside only, wheras the nun at the local primary would smack you across the mush, which my mother opposed big time by paying her several visits

It is not your responsibility to teach your other half what correct behaviour is. That's what the police and their truncheons (or fire-able cattle prods) are for. Assuming it isn't too late by then.

My mom smacked us with her bare hand, though the wooden spoon was a favorite weapon of hers. We turned out OK! None on drugs, drink or the dole! LOL

How can you teach anybody what correct behaviour is by hitting them though!! (I'm not talking about little slaps on the hand to stop them doing dangerous things or touching things they shouldn't) Smacking is hitting. Why is it OK for you to hit kids and not adults.

But it's fine to use summary imprisonment (being sent to your room) and theft of property (stopping pocket money) to 'impose your will'. The reasonable chastisement allowed by law is just as far removed from what any reasonable person would call 'violence'. As for your ridiculing those who say the occasional smack didn't do them any harm, that's the best example of 'begging the question' I have ever come across.

i think its harder to punish teenagers smaking wont work on them !!
