I have a large tub of chicken livers. At the moment it is 50/50 as to whether I cook them or bin them as they are not particularly appealing to me. Any ABers got tried and tested recipes (other than paté)?
I'm thinking 'on skewers with mushrooms, peppers and onion and basted in something tangy' might work... I'd be happier with them cooked really well/crispy rather than 'pink and wobbly' as has been suggested...
I think we're on to something here jno. Notice how CD's not contributing? I reckon she's in the background scowling thinking "id have got away with it but for those meddling Abers"
I can't see why someone would want to throw away good food. It's not like liver is some weird thing. Pig's and lamb's are sold and eaten commonly. So why not chicken's ? In your shoes I'd try the Net for recipes.
CD is currently on the 6.32 train on her way back. I've got to go and pick her up... might drag her to Sainsburys for some kidneys and sweetbreads... make a real meal of it...
Delia Smith does a wonderful bolognese sauce/ragu for pasta which includes chicken livers along with minced beef etc - it is really excellent - check out her website.
Also I had a very good hot starter in a Lebanese restaurant the other day - chicken livers chopped and sauteed with butter and lemon juice.
You said the tub was 'reduced'......like near it's sell-by...or like a special offer? How long have you had them? Bin 'em if past sell-by.
Otherwise-I'd go for the Pate option....all you'd need is some crusty bread...and you're sorted.
