No baking beans....

I need to bake a pastry case but cannot find my jar of baking beans. What else can I use??

I use dried peas, smow.
i use dry chick peas
You can use rice but line it with baking paper.
failing all of the above, if you have a baking tin the same size you could place that on top

Not sure coins are a good idea. They may have bacteria on them....
They'd soon be sterilised in the over, anngel.

Plus you would have either foil or greaseproof paper under the coins
You don't need to put anything in the pastry case - just prick it all over with
a fine fork. Trick learned from St Delia in the 1970s!
I too use copper coins. Its a tip from Heston blumenthal. Works a treat!
