Blueberries

Never eaten them until today, they are really rather nice. I expected tart/sour.
I did however, find that little hard frill nasty in the mouth, are you supposed to remove it?

I just eat the lot, they are absolutely delicious at the moment. The frill's good roughage :-)

I know just what you mean Ferlew, It's the little five pointed star on the bottom of the fruit, which is called the 'calyx' it's where the flower was.
Remembering my first experience at tasting blueberries, was the some as yours and found it fiddly trying to remove the calyx but once I got used to the berry, I found that didn't bother me any more.
I now grow several bushes and there is nothing like picking and eating straight from the bush but I often find myself checking the calyx and blowing it just in case of anything that shouldn't be there.
