Pigs in blankets, christmas pud too much chocolate!!
Question Author
Pigs in blankets seem to be winning. Thanks, Slappy. No one eats them at any other time of the year, do they?
I never eat pigs in blankets at any time of the year or sprouts or quality street; and do buy and eat chestnuts throughout the year. I buy waitrose frozen ones which are much nicer than the vaccuum packed ones. I do have to stock up now because they are seasonal and once the years crop is sold, then there are no more until next winter. I don't think there's anything that I only buy at christmas but there are of course seasonal things that are only in the shops now.
Seasonal purchases for us are: stollen, chestnuts, stuffing, clementines. We eat sprouts and dates all year round.
Any Nibbles Boxy?
I suppose because I have never cooked a traditional Christmas meal, the classic trappings of Christmas pass me by.

I do buy/gather Chestnuts when they begin to appear but that is more about the season than Christmas.
I eat dates and sprouts all year as I'm very keen on both. I suppose the only different food at Christmas would be the turkey, I rarely buy turkey at any other time of year. However, as I will be eating lunch in an Indian restaurant this year I haven't even bought a turkey this year. Suits me :)

That sounds like a good plan, eth.
Yep, Mrs av bought a net of chestnuts earlier.

So, it would appear that a lot of you do buy special food at Christmas. Why not? It is a time of celebration and good cheer.

Happy Christmas to one and all. xx
Tilly when are you off to the Rhine?
Question Author
Shush, sibs!
Tokaji wine - dessert wine from Hungary - love the six puttenyos but the five will do nicely.
I only do a 'roast' on Christmas Day and New Year's Day (it such a fuss for one meal) - mine prefer the ham on Boxing Day which is so easy to do (and we also have it at Easter for some reason).
Turkey

How about Advocate. Who buys that at any other time?
Question Author
I think I may have spelled that wrongly. I mean egg flip!
illy cannot determine the meaning
Of sorrow that fills her breast:
A fable of old, through it streaming,
Allows her mind no rest.
The air is shortly cool in the gloaming
And gently flows the Rhine.
The crest of the mountain is gleaming
In fading rays of sunshine.

The loveliest maiden is sitting
Up there, so wondrously fair;
Her golden jewellry is glist'ning;
She combs her golden hair.
She combs with a gilded comb, preening,
And sings an AB song, passing time.
It has a most wondrous, appealing
And pow'rful melodic rhyme.

The waterboaty aboard his small skiff, -
Enraptured with a wild ache,
Has no eye for the jagged cliff, -
His thoughts on the seadogg heights fear forsake.
I think that the waves will devour
Both boat and man, by and by,
And that, with her dulcet-voiced power
Was done by the Loretilly

I love that! Thank you so much, DTC!
Ah you beat me to it DTC, I was going to re-name Tilly 'Lorelei'
