Every time I cook one of Youngs already battered fish in the oven there is a lot of smoke being created. Anybody know of how to do it without all this smoke ?

I used to have the same problem with Young's battered fish, I put it down to my 14 year old noisy oven (electric). So, was disappointed when the same thing happened in my new oven (also elec), but not quite on the same scale. Soon discovered that 160 degrees in a pre-heated fan assisted oven, for 25 mins(as apposed to the recommended 200 degrees), is all that is...

Wrap it in foil?
If it's battered though, sibs, wouldn't that make the batter soggy?

Is the smoke coming from the fish, or the oven? I don't ever cook this dish so I have no experience, but if you have to have the oven very hot, is there something (e.g. a spliiage) on the oven wall/floor which is causing smoke?
Think that might make the batter soggy. Do you have the oven on too high?
Just realised that Boxy, I never cook or eat fish either
I suspect its your oven. I have the Youngs fish often and it cooks without smoke.
I have stopped buying Youngs because of that. I find Harry Ramsden's better. I always cook mine on the grill pan, in the oven so that the fish are not sitting in grease.

You could try cooking them for longer, on a lower heat.
Havlo's tears

Psybbo's fish have spikes
and a sheet of alu-foil
and mine
I suggest you boil.
Boil battered fish - the world's gone mad.
DTC, how can you boil a fried fish?
verse can be mad, mamya!

the oven is probably too hot and it may also need a clean.....
Typical poets cop out.
“Good Mums have sticky floors, messy kitchens, laundry piles, dirty ovens, and happy kids.” No idea who said that......

Oil comes out of the fish which in turn starts to smoke.
And No the oven is absolutely clean and does not smoke other times !
Do you rely on your oven thermostat? Try checking the oven temp with a separate oven thermometer.
Try cooking at a slightly lower temperature and Lower in the oven. That should help
Is it fan assisted?

Place in oven on a grille with a tray under. After 10 mins turn over.
You'll find that less oil seeps out, and what does - doesn't burn/smoke.
Are you using the ovens grill?
I cook Youngs Battered fish in a fan assisted oven without any problem like smoke. If you have fan assisted rather than conventional oven I'd re-adjust the temperature and maybe the time required to cook it.
Perhaps it's because it is smoked fish?
