I'm with you there Tilly, I've never understood the fascination with BBQs.
Much better to get pre-packed slads, nibbles, etc from M&S, chill the beers and white wine and relax.
Use to really enjoy cooking on the simple old Hibachi barbecues that actually used charcoal. The food actually tasted good. None of this cooking over a huge propane torch, and slathering the heated food with with all kinds of weird concoctions so that you can pretend it tastes better that food cooked in and on the stove.
Can't stand BBQs. Always hate macho men taking over the BBQ soon as the Sun appears and try to prove their culinary skills and smugly pretend they are giving the wife a break but really consider the female too dumb to handle it.
For god's sake I have been the main cook in our family for the last 40 years so I don't consider I am doing anyone a favour by cooking in the garden.
I have a nice Spanish 3 ring paella burner on a tripod with a massive paella pan to match. I would sooner cook a seafood/chicken/rabbit paella any day al fresco.
Any one want a 3 burner BBQ. Had it about 5 years and used it about twice.

I remember my mum and dad visiting my sister back in the early 70s. They came back with what was known as the Hibachi then. It was never referred to as a BBQ. Think they got it in a Canada Tyre store.
Retro, one does learn how to become very discreet...Especially this one. Anyway, you lot, enjoy your barbies, and kens: I'm off for wobbly-pops...Cheers.
