An Ad on recent TV appears to claim “why didn’t we(they) think of putting coffee in a bag before”?
I recall coffee bags back in the either the 70s or 80s.....Can any members confirm which decade please?

// Something very similar to these was brought out in the late 1970s and early 1980s but they never really caught on.//

Thank you elliemay1 - I suspected it was in the 70s.
- Sometimes you wonder why some companies try to convince you their product is brand new! Just a sales tactic....
Coffee has moved on quite a bit since then.
I didn't think coffee was the thing back then.
I think it was the late 70s. They weren't very good.
I remember them in approx 1976.
I remember them too and they left a lot of fine grounds in the cup, very unpleasant. Course coffee was a thing back then, my dad used a stove top percolator for his coffee every day
We used coffee bags in the Hotel my parents ran in the 1960's. Worked well enough in a big urn as long as you did not use the bottom few inches.
A friend has brought packs of coffee bags back from Hawaii for me several times for the last several years. They aren't a new idea.
coffee in bags? heaven forfend, next they'll be doing it with Tea! The world's gone mad!
yup 70's but still plenty of different one cup and coffee press kinds around now, also one cup filters....no idea why its touted as a new idea.
80s
I have a very vague recollection but was it filter coffee like you get now in pods?
there were and still are various kinds tiggs
Coffee bags were definitely around in 1992 (plus or minus a year or so).

I remember being served coffee (in the same sort of stainless steel tea pots that supermarket cafés still serve tea in) during a visit to a rather odd little transport café (which was actually part of someone's private bungalow) in Norfolk. The lady who ran the place was obviously rather proud of using coffee bags (instead of instant coffee), making a point of mentioning it to me and my father.
yes they were considered posher than instant
Definitely the 70s. We bought them in Asda.
