For us this evening, real gourmet stuff. With ketchup and tartar sauce.
Followed by a sticky toffee pud which has been languishing in the freezer for longer than I care to think about.
We’re eating (and drinking) stuff up at the mo for various reasons so will probably have a few G&Ts too, just to get rid of the bottles you understand.

Fish fingers in a wrap with lashing of salt and vinegar and Mayo and some crispy lettuce

Well cashier, they’re not ‘real’ real chips but the next best thing, fat extra special oven chips. Can’t remember the last time I made real chips, probably not since I ditched the chip pan about, ooh, 30 years ago.
And thank you for asking about the afternoon tea, it was lovely, mainly due to the venue. The sandwiches, cakes and scones were very nice but nothing exceptional, the service was very good, the champers (Moët) was really good. The weather and view from our table was wonderful, right across the Thames and way beyond into the Berkshire countryside.
Down to earth, perhaps I’d better put the fish fingers and chips on ;)
I've been reading this thread while tucking into my evening meal:
80g of mince, defrosted from the freezer and browned in a frying pan, with a third of a can of baked beans then being added next, along with some instant beef gravy. Throw in some hot chilli powder, allow to simmer for 15 minutes and serve with a couple of slices of bread. It's one of my favourite quick meals and, at under 60p, it ain't gonna break the bank!

I'm now going to finish off with some nice strawberries and clotted cream ice cream though, so bang go my efforts to save money! Oh well, c'est la vie ;-)
There is always a sense of satisfaction I think when you knock up a cheap meal ^^^ :0)
Did mean to add. I've stopped buying so called fresh potatoes and veg. Tinned pots large tin 33p carrots 29p. Do a little mince instant gravy. Cooked meal for next to nothing, no waste. And the veg only takes 3/4 mins to heat up, so saving on energy waiting for tatters and carrots to cook.
The only tinned veg I like is baked beans & sweet corn. Very unsure about potatoes.
I find those tinned potatoes very handy for stews and potatoe salad
I find canned spuds handy in dishes where one would otherwise have to parboil them anyway, as in my own pilchard bake recipe:
https://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/ChatterBank/Question655723.html
which several ABers seem to like, e.g.

Canned spuds (with plenty of butter on them) also go well with cheesy things, such as a grilled pork chop with loads of cheddar cheese melted on top of it.
Gave up with the spuds, don't know what's up with them. Look great on the outside and rotten on the inner. Just kept throwing more away than eating, same with carrots. It's so much easier. The only thing I miss is the roast spud so may buy a couple of loose ones later on for a change.
