Wine Snobbery.
9 Answers
Are there any ABs who agree with me that there is a lot of snobbery attached to wine?.
I drink red wine and having enjoyed drinking (at others expense )some of the premier French Crus...Chateau Latour, Margaux, Haut-Brion (Lafite being the exception ) I am able to appreciate what some would say is 'plonk'.
In fact, I go along with an original expert on French Wine
(Alexis Lichine ) who took the view that "If you like it, drink it. "
At this very moment I am drinking and enjoying a Vin Rouge which has come out of a Plastic Bottle.

And I've never had a bad rioja, no matter how little I pay for it.
I do find in general that the higher the AV, the less likelihood of a headache.
And give me a sparkling shiraz in preference to champagne any day.

Drink what you like Ron ..but save some red for your casserole ..haha !
Not a little old wine drinker ...me .It gives me a headache ..I much prefer gin or whisky.!
Don't know if you ever used to watch that BBC programme "Food and Drink " where they had Jilly Goolden and Oz Clarke pontificating about wine ? All that nosing and spitting used to put me off me dinner .
As for my friend Vinny and his Becksfraumilch ....well I shall have to report him to Robinia for drinking on duty !

If you are drinking and enjoying a Vin Rouge out of a plastic bottle, then that Vin Rouge out of a plastic bottle is a darn fine bottle of wine !!! I am drinking a cute little Cotes du Rhone by M&S (a present, so it cost me absolutely nothing - the cheapest wine of all) and it is beautiful. Ignore the wine snobs, drink what YOU like to drink.
Rejoinders as promised:- Babycham was very popular with young ladies when I was a lad.(before 1978)
Rioja is great. Champagne very over-rated and overpriced. I've never tried sparkling shiraz.
I'm not too keen on Vinny's tipple. It could be somewhat high with tannin and leave a leathery aftertaste in the mouth. It's no wonder it has a lederhosen boquet.
Good to hear that Jim and Jugglering are into bargains.
Shaney you suprise me not liking wine with food. Neverthless you seem to be full of high spirits.(gin and whiskey I note) I was never enthusiastic about Jill and Oz but I sense that perhaps your friend Vinny may have been.
