Is it ok to pur cooking oil down the sink, or will it block the drain? My husband says put it down the loo, but I can't see the difference....surely it's the same drain?

No, it can block the pipes in the sink (before it gets to the drain), which the toilet will not link to.... Hubby should say it will block the sink, not the drain, perhaps that is where the confusion is :o)
Your not supposed to put it down either. I sometimes put mine on to the garden. If you must put it down the sink, put it in a container with lots of hot water and washing up liquid this changes the structure and it runs away easier.
dont put it down any drain-have you not seen any of those environmental helath progs which show sewers blocked up with fat??
we tend to put it into a tin can (coke or baked beans or something), wait til it hardens and bin it
put into a used plastic bottle and dispose of it in your rubbish bin
i thnk isaw a thing on blue peter back in the day where you add bird seed to it and make a kind of cake to put out for the birds in winter?
dig a little in the garden and pour it in, and cover it up.
dig a little hole in the garden and pour it in, and cover it up.

Thanks everyone - see follow-up question....
where?
I usually mop it up with bread or cake or anything like that that might be out of date or nearly, and then put it out for the birds. they don't eat it so much in summer but it goes down a treat in winter!
Save it and warm it slightly. Buy and big bag of oats and mix the oats and the oil together in a big saucepan.
Save the mixture in a large plastic container and throw a handful out every morning for the birds.
They will love it in this cold frosty weather and it will give them the vital energy they need, especially once all the insects die from cold and the berries on shrubs all get eaten. We never throw any old cooking fat or oil away and always use it up like this.

Thanks so much Cidermonkey and WendyS - I will follow your suggestions - luckily, I already put out stuff for the birds, so this is great. To Crete, the follow up ? is about 3 up from this one - didn't realise I should have posted it here (this is my first time - be gentle with me). Also to Crete, ignore what it says on the follow up as I will be following Cidermonkey and WendyS's great ideas instead of sabotaging my neighbours bin!
Along the same lines as the others, but whenever we have a fry up, I cut up some bread and fry it in the leftover oil from the bacon and sausages and make some croutons. It soaks up all the fat and the birds love it (and so does my dog when I drop bits on the floor)
