HELP! i have some friends coming round for dinner and i'm making curry. One of them is lactose intollerant and i was wondering if anyone knew what brand of curry sauce (in a jar from a supermarket!) i could use to make her curry? Any ideas?! The ones in my cupboard all contain milk :(
with all due respect, if you are inviting somebody round to yours, wouldnt it be best to make the sauce yourself? It will taste MUCH better and you will know what goes into it. Its not hard at all to make a curry sauce!
I'm with filthiestfis. Get an Indian Cookbook and start from scratch. In our house Friday night is curry night & I often start them on Wednesday. Much better than jars of sauce.
Well, i work until 6pm and everyone is round mine at 7pm and i dont get home until 6.30pm. The meal is tomorrow night and i have only just been told about one of them being lactose intollerant! Hence why i need a jar to make a quick meal!
30 minutes is ample time to rustle up a Thai curry - 10 minutes prep then it can bubble away for 20 to 30 minutes quite happily. Grab a jar of red Thai Curry Paste, packet of jasminie rice, chicken breast or fillets then one red pepper, one can of coconut milk and one red chilli for every two people. Follow the instructions on the jar and away you go throwing in the chilli and red pepper strips 5 minutes before serving.
So easy and way better than any premade cook in sauce things.
I realise your dinner party has been and gone, but for future reference lactose relates to 'milk sugar', so the chances of this occurring in a jar of curry paste is pretty remote! You'll only find lactose in cows milk, which in turn is then made into cheese, cream, yoghurt etc. Dairy products made from ewes and goats milk is lactose-free, as well as coconut milk.
