How can I make Halloumi cheese taste less salty? I tend to either grill or fry it.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.When you've grilled or fried it, drizzle over either some good Balsamic (the thick, posh type), or a good viniagrette. The slight sweetness of the balsamic cancels out some of the saltiness, as will a slight acidity from a viniagrette. The 'opposites' rule works for over-salted food as well - a squirt of lemon will counteract an over-zealous hand with the salt, as will salt for over sharp things - am I making sense here as I'm typing this in a rush and haven't got time to read it all back!

you can also slice it, sprinkle with fresh herbs and plenty of cracked black pepper, ass a sliced tomato and some crushed garlic and wrap the whole lot up in filo pastry and bake it.
If you don't want to eat pastry, you can do the same, but wrap it up in foil - works just as well, just add a little oil.

ooh i love it! I either dry fry it, and then make a little dressing, with olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice and a finely chopped red chilli, it scrummy. or dry fry with tomatos and put in a wholemeal pitta. or just with salad and tzatziki. yummy, ooh also bbq it (careful as it falls off) with m&s sticky chilli marinade
