No, you can make it with tofu. Any good vegan cookbook will contain a recipe or you could probably find one online.
My mum once forgot to put the curd cheese in a cooked cheesecake. We couldn't work out what was different, until we saw the cheese on the side looking at us. It was lovely, but wasn't really cheesecake.
you do get (or used to) things in London bakers called cheesecake that were actually puff pastry with coconut strands glued to the top with white icing. No I don't know why. Yes they were disgusting
Oh Woofgang you brought back so many memories of those cheesecakes in London with the coconut topping. No cheese in them at all and I couldn't work out in my young mind why they were called cheesecakes. Mum always bought them and I, like you, hated them!
They're made of soft cheese like philadelphia but I'd advise if you really don't even like that cheese to make a different kind of dessert :-D
