The first sprouts of the year are in the Coop, well, 24 less than this morning - love or hate? Boiled to a mush with chilli sauce and lashings of white pepper.

Lovely article there Lofty..... I sort of got a bit carried away reading about the allotment sheds though..... sheds are fascinating aren't they ?

There was significant snow in London in April this year - the 6th. I remember what a complete surprise it was, and have photos to prove it.

There used to be a proper greengrocer on Stonecot Hill .Long since gone and replaced by a bloomin ' takeaway ...Whiffey will know where I mean and he always had Brussel Tops after Christmas in Jan and Feb . I used to like those better than the actual sprouts .Boiled and chopped up with loads of butter and pepper and a bit of nutmeg ..

Also cinnamon and cloves, which is a shame because they really add a special touch to a bolognaise sauce.

Nutmeg is lovely on sprouts . My ma in law always adds a bit of nutmeg to sprouts. Try it ..you will love it .Just a sprinkling ..no nightmares I can assure you :))

My husband likes nutmeg on mashed potatoes, which is just soooooooo wrong to me. It belongs on a custard tart. :-)

Nutmeg is very underrated .Yesterday we had celeriac mash which would taste bland without the addition of nutmeg and lashings of black pepper .It's not just a spice for sweet stuff
I love it on mash ..it's particularly nice on mashed swede and carrot with lashings of butter and a dash of cream ..

hehe- thanks for the link, however I also have to admit to being a bit engrossed in the shed bit- I couldn't make up my mind whether it was hideous or really funky.
