Im making chilli con carne in a slow cooker. im supposed to put the kidney beans in 45 minutes before serving .. do i just put them in or do i have to cook them first ? And is it ok if i just warm this up the next day to eat a second helping ?
if they are out of a tin you can put them in just before you serve. if they are freshly soaked you need to cook for at least 45mins and they need to be soaked for at least 8 hours
After soaking, they need to be boiled rapidly for 10 minutes to remove the toxins. Then you can carry on and simmer them until cooked.
If they are tinned, this has already been done for you - but make sure you rinse them thoroughly before adding to your chilli.
When reheating, make sure you heta to very hot (at least 70 degrees) for at least two minutes. x
