I need a fruit, other than raisins and sultanas (which i've thought of) and definatly not prunes or any other fruit with laxative properties please, that these rules can be applied to;

1) you must be able to eat it all, with no pips, skin or stalk etc left over.

2) available in England in the next few weeks and won't be really expensive.

3) isn't messy and won't go mushy in a rucksack.

4) doesn't come with a tonne of packaging, although i have considered taking those little boxes of pineapple etc, if i can't find anything else, i don't want to be eating sultanas all day, then my other rubbish can be put inside the tub.

For one night but we have to hike 10 miles aswell, for my first expedition training badge. if you take it further you have to go away for increasing amount of time, covering more ground, thats harder to walk over.

i didn't know such website existed, thanks for the link.
Guava? kiwifruit?

Or any fruit and just throw the skin/core into the bushes, it will soon get eaten or rot away (though technically it is littering, which is daft if you ask me!)
Question Author
exactly, we're not allowed to litter and where we are going (the marshes somewhere) has no bins.
Dried dates

i just read that webpage properly and it had a brilliant idea of crackers instead of bread, which i was wondering how to substitute.
Pomegranate's and a bottle of Cranberry juice give you energy.
Demi-dried apricots from the health food shop, but why not invest in a 'tupperware' box with a tight fitting lid, and make up a box of mixed fresh fruit every day? - That way you can get what's cheap, and not get sick of the same thing day in day out, you can mix the them.
Ahh - so what i've just suggested is out, except the apricots which are very nice, they do other semi-dried fruits too, blueberries, cherries, mixed with nuts as long as you don't have allergies, the tropical mix is nice, with pineapple, coconut, raisins apricots etc. Nuts are a good source of protein (but NOT the salted variety)
surely leaving an apple core under a bush or something wouldn't cause too much harm... it's not exactly littering, cos fruit falls from trees anyway.
What's wrong with taking what you like and taking your litter home? You carried it out with you, it's hardly a hardship to take the remains back. You can take ring pull tins of fruit in fruit juice and just take the tin back in your bag.
you should try eating the apple core, and the pear core for that matter, their quite edible, saves worrying about litter
I think you should go for a whole........pineapple.
Figs ?
