Cuisinart griddle/grill

I bought a Cuisinart griddle/grill 6 weeks ago, and whenever I wash the plates, small white flecks appear. I have emailed the company help line three times to ask their advice, but although I received an email back once informing me that they would get back to me immediately, I have heard nothing. Customer care is obviously not their forte. Has anyone else experienced these white flecks? They look unsightly, but what causes them to appear, and is it safe to ignore them when cooking with the appliance again? At £100, this wasn't a cheap grill, and I'm I didn't expect to see the grills covered in these spots after a couple of times usage.
