I now fancy an egg custard...........
Oh, yeeeah !!
It's like being back at school.
Now I am looking on Google for a recipe for egg custard.
:o(
Rice pudding was always on Monday which was wash day. Cold beef and chips if I remember right. I love rice pudding - thanks for the slow cooker recipe Annie0000, I'll give it a go. Does it have the wonderful thick brown skin on it when its done like that? Sorry you don't like it LoftyLottie. I go out with a group once a month, all of a 'certain' age, and older. When rice pudding's on the menu we all have it. Once, however, it was made with long grain rice and NO sugar yuck!!
Monday was wash day ????

=0o

I've just eaten a tin of microwaved tapioca ... OMG ... yum !
Hellywelly, I am in that certain age group!!
Yes, washing was always done on a Monday and put out on the line. We had a mangle in the garage which I was good at using. (They won't know what a mangle is, Loftylottie!). I remember my mother having an iron that she used to heat up on the coal fire (which she made every day).
Anyone for a history lesson!!!
Oh, THAT sort of washing.

I thought you meant ... you only had a wash on a Monday.

=0/

sorry

Washing clothes ... mmm ... I guess the housemistress did that ...

... we were too busy eating milky puddings, LOL.
Hellywelly I tell my daugher about these things and the answer I get is Well I suppose these were the good old days you telling me about again. Good grief kids now would have a fit if they had to do what we had to do in the GOOD OLD DAYS.
We never had much money when I was a child but we always had a pudding with dinner. Lovely rice with skin, bread and butter pudding, treacle sponge, jam rolypoly, apple crumble....mmmmm.
Wendilla

I never talk to anyone about 'the good old days' because they weren't.

Hi scotman, I bought it in Tesco, they have a 2 for £1,00 offer so went for it.
My mum always uses ordinary rice for rice pudding but added evapourated milk to it for that extra creamy taste - yum.
I hate the smell of - oh my stomachs churning at the thought of it - hot milk - yuk.
I don't like ovaltine either but do like egg custard tart - again bought ones.
I too love bread & butter pudding with apricot jam and sometimes I make it using brioche.
I like sponge pudding with any jam/treacle. I also do a really nice pineapple upside down cake
I always looked forward to pudding in school!

Thanks for that. No Tesco near me but I will look out for it elsewhere.
No Tesco nearby ?

Where do you live, Scotman ??

EVERYWHERE has a nearby Tesco, surely ?
Rice Pudding
Tapioca
Semolina

whatever happened to Sago Pudding?
JJ

I live in Edinburgh. Just happen to be in a Tesco-free zone. I have Spar, Scotmid Co-op, Sainsbury's but Tesco it quite far away.
Oh, Edinburgh ... nice ! (apparently)

I'd like to go there (but it's awfully remote).

Maybe in the summer.
oh JJ, you'd love edinburgh, just your sort of place. they have some posh shops and restaurants which you'd like ;) it's a really nice city, treat yourself to a week-end there.
