word of mouth and written texts
conquered nations were made to switch to the religion of the conquerer
Christianity was lucky because a roman emperor converted so they had a ready made pagan empire with which to destroy or convert rival religions, the countries which came after rome spread christianity through their colonial empires. Islam spread initially through absorbing pagan christian and jewish teachings in arabia and then spread mostly by conquest again killing or converting rival faiths. Both of them used plenty of force.
Simply put, Christianity by word of mouth, Islam by warfare.
not always Naomi.

Like the Crusades, naomie? Ooops no, wrong way round.

The word of Islam as spread very fast in many of are cities and towns in UK where its the majority religion. Thats by famly upbringing, word of mouth, education, indoctrination, whatever you want to call it but definately not by war, naomie
i would have thought the majority religion in UK is still Chrisianity
The UK’s official religion is Christianity, and churches of all denominations can be found throughout the UK, such as Catholic, Protestant, Baptist and Methodist. The main other religions are Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Judaism and Buddhism.
Give them time. Early days. Know your Islam.
No, bobbin, not like the Crusades. Nothing at all like the Crusades.

Am sure it is emmie although a larger proportion of Muslims are fairly strict muslims and attend mosques (men at least) and children after studyislam and pray at home whilst many who claim to be christian are not commited to it.
But a was meaning that there are some towns where Islam is the main religion- mosques everywhere, always lots of attenders

London Central Mosque, Regent's Park. A prominent Islamic landmark in the capital city. Islam is the second largest religion in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, with results from the United Kingdom 2011 Census giving the UK Muslim population in 2011 as 2,516,000, 4.4% of the total population.
Watch out, Bobbin, you’ve just fallen foul of Andy Hughes ‘so’ rule.
Why not answer bob's question, Naomi?

I'm too of the opinion that the Crusades were Holy War and they certainly spread the Christian gospel.
Through Empire building and wars.

As the Holy Roman Empire spread and then contracted, so did Christianity. The Ottoman Empire expanded around the east and Mediterranean, and Islam went with it.
More recently colonialisation took Christianity to the Americas and Australasia and Islam to the far east.

This question is about the spread of Christianity and Islam. By the time of the crusades were fought - in order to recapture the Holy Land - Christianity was already very firmly established.
There are 600 million Christians in Africa mainly the result of colonialisation by European countries. That’s about 50% of the continent.
(570 million muslims [42%] mainly in north Africa in the former Ottoman countries around the Med).
The end of the Crusades kicked off the Ottoman Empire building and the spread of Islam.
