i tried to scrap the artex off my ceiling, and as i'm sure you're all gonna tell me, it was a *** and its left it a bit uneven. I've had two quotes to fix it - one who has seen it in real life wants to put up plasterboard for £220 and the other one who has only seen pictures wants to skim it for £250. My question is could it just be skimmed, and am i getting ripped off as they both said it would only take a day. The room is 4 meters by 3.75. Thank you

Would of thought he would of gave it a bonding coat first, and then skimmed it.
Not really DIY if you're getting someone else to do it :-)

I'm no plasterer but my opinion is that one is unlikely to rush the job in half a day and on to someone else in the afternoon, so a day seems reasonable, and about £30 an hour inc. materials not unexpected.

Can't be enthusiastic with what the plasterboard guy has in mind though. Trying to nail more board to an uneven surface ? Yuk. Might as well tear down original and start again. I'd have thought skimming perfectly possible though if you have scraped it sufficiently.
£250 to skim a ceiling is not a bad price...it will probably require 2 coats...had it done in old house in Norfolk..first skim to fill in the lumps and bumps then a top skim....took a while to dry before painting though
No matter how rough the ceiling is now, re-boarding is not usually necessary. If not too bad, then the usual 2 coats of "board finish" skim.

If there are a lot of digs and holes, then one coat of "Carlite Bonding" laid down with a coat of board finish.

1 day's work for one chap, plus materials. £200 should be enough........ unless you live around London, where they make the prices up ;o(
