Hi,

My lawn has been covered by a fern type weed, it's never been there previously to my knowledge. It has a deep red tinge to it's stalk. It only appeared a couple of days ago and seems to be widespread and growing quickly.
I'll attempt to attach a few photographs below..

Does anyone know what it could be?

Thanks.

I think its lady's smock, and if you dont mow it in the next few days it will have some little pale mauve flowers on it. otherwise just cut the grass as normal and it will just grow along with the other lawn weeds.

I was wondering if it was a type of Hemlock, it's all over the place and is 2" high almost overnight!

Thanks for that Dave, the leaves are certainly very similar. I might let these grow a bit to see what flowers, if any, develop!
no problems, if you get any flowers post another couple of pics and ill take them into work again.

Hi Folks,

I just thought I'd attach a couple of pictures of what they turned into once they flowered. The flower heads are a light violet colour.

Looks nice to me, and is probably an indigenous wild meadow plant.
I hope you don't want to eradicate it.
It might be one of the campions.
he doesn't have to eradicate it, AP, just set it free from his garden to roam freely in the wild...
Yes, Spellright - do as JNO suggests and carefully dig them all up and re-plant them in the wild :-)

I cut my grass today as normal, 1st cut of the year.
Strange how so much of it appeared this year, for the first time.
I imagine it is "Lady's smock".
I let some of it flower to establish exactly what it was.
I have not, and don't intend to, eradicated it.

*eradicate
Ah - good :-)
Yes, it's Lady's Smock, I remember it from my childhood.
