Something is eating my bean plants, I don't think it is slugs because some of the stems are at the top of the poles, but without any leaves (I don't think slugs would get up there). I can't see any bugs so is it any use spraying what is left of the leaves with bug killer?

Do you see any trail on the poles? Apparently snails climb poles especially at night.

I've had a similar problem. It's snails that's scoffing them. A guy on a neighbouring allotment lost 200 bean plants to slugs and snails.

I had some trouble with my 'climbing french beans', I noticed, what looked like mosaic virus on some of the older, lower leaves and when I checked under them, sure enough, as I suspected, there was clusters of black bean aphids that had transmitted the virus, also there was evidence of slug damage, as they seem to prefer old yellowing leaves.
Sorry I went off on a bit of a tangent there but I think that if your bean poles are thick enough, they may be able to get to the tops.

It's slug, snail, white and black fly city, on my allotment this year:-(

I am coping with the slugs ... my problem is rabbits, they are tearing strawberries out by the roots. They have had some of the tomatoes out as well ... not to mention the dwarf beans. Quite a first for me, we have never been bothered like this before.
A couple of plot holders with air rifles are filling their freezers with rabbits, instead of veg.
