"He'll boost economic growth by slashing corporate taxes, red tape and government spending.

Which is the exact opposite of what Labour is plotting under Keir Starmer.

Instead of talking up the UK economy, Starmer has talked it down at every opportunity. He's destroyed business confidence by warning things will get worse."

"UK energy secretary Ed Miliband is blocking new North Sea oil exploration licences and throwing money at unproven green tech such as carbon capture and storage.

The US economy will soon be running red hot, while the UK will be taking a cold bath."

Oh dear Labour!

What about Trump's planned tariff increases. I've already seen reports about  the negative affect they will have on American consumers. Everything from fresh produce from Mexico to parts used in industry may become unaffordable. Inflation up and household income down...particularly those on very low incomes. He may be good for investors, but not the middle class.

pastafreak I think the clue is your word planned nobody knows .

So why did the FTSE drop with Trump's election. ?

Question Author

it was dropping anyway because of Labour's budget me old china.

In a word, yes. But they won't.

Trump is a complete idiot – and people think having an idiot in charge will improve things.

Here is a sour-grapes American pointing out what they have voted for; if you think American citizens will take up low paid agricultural jobs (currently done by migrants) at less than minimum wage, you are dreaming – just look what Brexit did to those jobs in the UK.

Dreaming Hymie. You are fine one to talk.

What planet does Hymie inhabit I explained yesterday I have lived in the states he knows little to nothing how it works.

Less corporation tax encourages investment. We should take a leaf out of the Irish book where the rate is just 12.5% and investment there is strong, particularly from American companies.

A high corporation tax stifles growth.

In the Times today an article states that American government debt stands at $35 trillion and the interest on that accounts for 17% of government spending.

Would any government we had, Lab or Tory, want to get so mired in debt?

Hymie 14.41. Seems like Trump, The Idiot, has not only been voted into power by the American Idiots, but he seems to have radicalised the idiots on Ab who support the idiot ..... Idiots... PMSL

You have no idea what's going on really do you. The American economy is currently the envy of the world, despite Trump doing nothing but slabbing off his own country for the last four years.

Anything he does can only make it worse, especially ridiculous tariffs on imports that American businesses will have to pay.

//The American economy is currently the envy of the world,//

Not a clue.

Gulliver.  Didn't a similar thing happen in this country on 4th July 2024?

Don't distract him gramps.  He's taking advantage of an opportunity to say 'idiots'.  😂

naomi.  I wonder when he keeps repeating 'idiot' if he is looking in a mirror?

17:33 As a % of GDP we are not far behind. We are paying double our defence budget in interest already me old china and The tea leaf has just passed a budget to make that much greater.

"if you think American citizens will take up low paid agricultural jobs (currently done by migrants) at less than minimum wage, you are dreaming..."

They will if they are not paid to sit at home. Lack of cash concentrates the mind.

The same happens here and to run a country that relies on cheap immigrant labour is very unwise. It drives down wages and living standards for everybody. No businesses should become addicted to cheap labour especially, as in the UK, low pay is topped up by taxpayers.

"if you think American citizens will take up low paid agricultural jobs (currently done by migrants) at less than minimum wage, you are dreaming..."

2 things:

1) as the judge says being boracic tends to contentrate the mind so if they get less or no welfare those jobs will start to look a bit more attractive.

2) Supply and demand, if there are jobs with no one doing them, guess what? Wages will increase until there is someone doing them.

The left always seem to struggle with these basic truths.

Thats because the ideology clouds common sense TTT so they revert to lies or whataboutery - like "What about Trumps tarrif increases"
