Is it really true that it keeps them horrible slimy slugs away?

I also thought of adding sand to the base of the Hoster plants!

yes it worked for me around plant pots
Question Author
thanks folly! it worked for you ok then, thats good.
I keep looking at the plants expecting a slug to show his ugly head
You've just reminded me to pellet my hostas! ;0)
I've put it around my Hosta pots and a half barrel which is full of Hostas, seems to work a treat.

Gorgeous garden D97. How does the copper work, do they just slide off it?
how does this tape work? just curious.
Question Author
It says that the copper gives the slugs a static electric shock when it comes in contact with it. Ah, poor ole slugs, I feel so cruel
Not totally sure but I think its a bit like when we get a bit of tin foil on a filling.
just googled it and it said something about an electrical charge to the slug. sounds nice!
Oh really! Does it kill them I wonder? Salt or electrocution :0/
Question Author
Copper tape seems to me to be the most humane way to kill them off
I don't think it kills them as I've never seen dead ones by the pot like you would with pellets.
Are you a slug whisperer :0) I'll take your word for it pusskin!
So a kind of stun gun effect? Where do we put them when they're not stunned anymore?
Question Author
lol I got it wrong! it doesnt kill them (just read the box) it keeps them away.
So --I'm happy with that. many thanks for replies x Have a nice day folks
I would also advise to make sure that other plant leaves don't touch the Hostas otherwise the little buggers will cross the copper fence that way.
Go on then, leave us with a load of stunned slugs! ;0)
Question Author
our lovely large hostas are sitting on their own, away from other plants, so will keep that in mind an definately keep them seperated. I dont like using poisons, as that could kill hedgehogs and lots of other things , such as birds etc
sink a beer can in soil, with a little beer in....they drop in & drown happily imbibed
Question Author
if our hostas were in the ground, that would be a brill idea, but mine are all in pots .
thanks so much for replies
